More Power For Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Posted by Unknown Posted on 18:08 with No comments
Mercedes-Benz is giving its flagship roadster a power boost for the 2015 model year. The SL63 AMG's twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 gets a hefty 48-horsepower increase, bringing total output to 585 horsepower--matching that of the upcoming 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG coupe, and making both cars the most powerful vehicles yet to carry this particular engine.

1956 Maserati 450S Prototype by Fantuzzi

Posted by Unknown Posted on 18:06 with No comments
What would you do with 4 million-5.5 million euros (around $5.5m-$7.6m)? A fleet of Bugatti Veyrons, perhaps? Build the biggest garage you can and fill it with pretty much every one of your dream cars?

If the 1956 Maserati 450S Prototype by Fantuzzi hits its estimate at an RM Auctions sale in Monaco on May 10, one buyer will have spent that amount on that stunning race car alone. Driven by Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson at the 1956 Mille Miglia, the car was originally built as a six-cylinder with the chassis number 3501. Before the Mille Miglia race in Italy that year, engineers quickly installed the now-incumbent 5,657cc 90-degree V-8 engine, producing an impressive 520 horsepower. Moss crashed the car when its brakes gave out during the race--perching the car precariously against a tree over a ravine.

Since then the car has gained the chassis number 4501, once used on an entirely different Maserati 450S but now verified for this car. Since then the car has been sold on to various owners, even receiving a Corvette V-8 engine during a 1965 restoration. After that the car was sold to a buyer in the U.S, who sold it once again in 1970. That owner actually used the car on the roads of California, but the car returned to Italy in 1981 in the hands of an Italian collector. It received a full, authentic and Maserati-overseen restoration in 1987, resulting in its current status.

It isn't the only striking Italian lot at the upcoming Monaco auction. Alongside it is a 1955 Lancia D50A Formula One recreation, built from original plans for the late Tom Wheatcroft, who owned the historic Donington Park circuit for many years. As a recreation its 800,000-900,000 euro estimate ($1.1m-$1.24m) is lower than the "real thing", but this is as close as recreations get to the cars driven by Fangio and Ascari back in 1955.

Another work of art gracing the block in Monaco is a 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback Sports Saloon by Franay. The ultra-rare car--just three were made in this design--has an estimate of 725,000-1m euros ($999K-$1.37m). The design is a mixture of British class and Gallic flair, the Bentley uses a 178-horsepower, 4,566cc six-cylinder engine with twin SU carbs. The seller describes it as "the grandest of British tourers", and it's up for auction in Monaco on May 10, a few weeks before the Monaco Grand Prix.(motorauthority.com)

    2016 MINI Clubman Spy Shots

Posted by Unknown Posted on 01:35 with No comments
Despite MINI’s plans to introduce a new five-door Cooper later this year, it looks like there are no plans to phase out the existing extra versatile Cooper variant, the Clubman. Our latest spy shots show a prototype for what’s destined to be a second-generation MINI Clubman.

Previewed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in concept form, the new Clubman will keep its signature split tailgate but see its single suicide-style rear door replaced by two conventional rear doors. The new Clubman will also feature different tail lights compared to those used on the third-gen MINI Cooper Hardtop, with which it will share the BMW Group’s new UKL front-wheel-drive platform.

Another major change is the size of the vehicle. As confirmed by the concept, the new Clubman will be almost as big as a BMW 3-Series Sports Wagon. The enlarged version of the UKL platform it will ride on will also be used for a seven-seat BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer as well as a possible MINI 'Traveller' MPV.(motorauthority.com)

Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo Takes On An F/A-18 Hornet Fighter Jet: Video

Posted by Unknown Posted on 23:45 with No comments
What we have here is a gratuitous display of power and speed, courtesy of two guys who both think they have the best job in the world. Granted, it's hard to argue with that description when it's applied to a Formula One driver and the pilot of an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet.

Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo took on Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) pilot Michael Keightly at an air base Down Under because... why not? A fighter plane is probably the only thing cooler than an F1 car, and there's great footage of both here. Maybe the FIA should consider sanctioning plane vs. car racing.

Even with a bit of wheel spin, the F1 car gets the jump on the jet off the line. That's not surprising, given the Hornet's size and the time needed for its engines to get up to speed. Once the plane gets going though, it's another story.

Ricciardo was in his native Australia for the start of the 2014 F1 season, and to dedicate the Infiniti Performance Engineering Academy, a cooperative effort between Red Bull and the Japanese luxury brand to train the next generation of engineers.

Announced last year, the program will send three candidates on a one-year assignment at Red Bull Racing's base in the U.K., and they'll also work with Infiniti on road car development. Salary and accommodations, as well as a trip to the British Grand Prix, are included in the deal.(motorauthority.com)

2014 Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix Weather Forecast

Posted by Unknown Posted on 23:38 with No comments
The Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix is a very demanding race, both for the drivers and the cars. Not only is there the humidity and heat to contend with--the drivers lose more than 6 pounds in sweat--but torrential rain can be, and often is, a problem. And there’s a good chance we’ll see some of the wet stuff this weekend.

The current forecast for Sunday’s race is a peak temperature of 93 degrees F (34 degrees C), humidity levels at 63 percent and wind speeds low. There is also the strong chance of a thunderstorm. Similar conditions are expected for Saturday’s qualifying.

Tire supplier Pirelli has brought its full wet tires just in case. Otherwise, teams will be using P Zero Orange hard and P Zero White medium, the two hardest compounds this year. This is to cope with the abrasive asphalt of Malaysia’s Sepang circuit; tire degradation will be a key issue during Sunday’s race.

After today’s practice session, it was clear Mercedes AMG will be the team to beat, though Ferrari and Red Bull Racing weren’t too far off the pace. Mercedes’s Nico Rosberg was the quickest during practice, followed closely by Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. Fourth quickest was Rosberg’s teammate Lewis Hamilton while Räikkönen’s teammate Fernando Alonso rounded out the top five.

Going into the weekend, Mercedes AMG’s Nico Rosberg sits on 25 points in the Drivers’ Championship while McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button have 18 and 15 points respectively. In the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren leads with 33 points versus the 25 of Mercedes AMG and the 18 of Ferrari.

Mercedes AMG’s Lewis Hamilton Secures Pole At 2014 Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix

Posted by Unknown Posted on 23:37 with No comments
Mercedes AMG’s Lewis Hamilton has managed to secure his second consecutive pole position after a stunning performance during today’s rain-affected qualifying session for the 2014 Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix. Despite some very heavy downpours, Hamilton managed to set a reasonable fastest time of 1:59.431 near the end of the day.

He’ll still have his work cut out for him tomorrow, as reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing posted the second fastest time, a 1:59.486, and thus secures the second spot at the front of the grid.

Third on the grid went to Hamilton’s Mercedes AMG teammate Nico Rosberg, who set a fastest time of 2:00.050, while fourth place went to Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard collided with Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat during the session and stewards are still investigating the matter. The Russian rookie ended up 11th fastest.

Rounding out the top five was Red Bull’s new driver Daniel Ricciardo. Then it was Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen in sixth, Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg in seventh, McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen in eighth, Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne in ninth and McLaren’s Jenson Button in tenth.

Unfortunately, more rain is predicted for tomorrow’s race so we could see more of the red flags and delays that we saw today.

Going into the race, Nico Rosberg sits on 25 points in the Drivers’ Championship while McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button have 18 and 15 points respectively. In the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren leads with 33 points versus the 25 of Mercedes AMG and the 18 of Ferrari.(motorauthority.com)

1969 Mustang Shelby GT500 Cobra Jet Found In Pristine Condition: Auction

Posted by Unknown Posted on 18:57 with No comments
A person's passing is never a time for joy. Nonetheless, silver linings do exist, and in this case, it's a silver lining that was put away and preserved for us by Larry Brown. It's a one-owner 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 428 Cobra Jet with just 8,531 original miles, and it's in amazing shape.

The Black Jade paint is only lightly covered in dust, while the car itself appears to be nearly in as-delivered condition, including the 428 Cobra Jet engine and four-speed transmission--as well as the 8,531 miles on the odometer.

Bearing serial number 1946, this 1969 GT500 is a larger, later take on the classic muscle-Mustang theme, but there's no doubt that it deserves that Shelby badge. Nor is there any doubt it will be a highly desired collectible when it comes to auction in Pennsylvania on April 25.

As Yahoo! Autos reports, because Brown died with no living heirs and leaving no will to otherwise dispose of the car, the car will be sold at public estate auction by Ron Gilligan Auctioneering(souce-motorauthority.com)

Memo Gidley and Matteo Malucelli crash at 2014 Rolex 24

Posted by Unknown Posted on 18:54 with No comments
At the Daytona 24 Hours race this January, we sat down with Ferrari North America's CEO Marco Mattiacci to talk racing, touching on both the current Tudor United SportsCar Championship series, and Ferrari's history in endurance racing. How those things intertwine--or don't--and how Ferrari approaches its factory-backed customer racing program in the U.S. sheds light on the fight that's developing this year between Porsche, Audi, and Ferrari in the highly competitive and challenging GT Daytona class. The Daytona 24 itself was fraught with peril and controversy. Partway through the race, Gainsco Bob Stallings driver Memo Gidley, piloting a Daytona Prototype into the setting sun, smashed into the back of Risi Competizione driver Matteo Malucelli's Ferrari 458 GTD car at over 100 mph. The resulting impact was shocking, but fortunately both drivers survived, though each was injured, and Gidley is still recovering from extensive injuries. On the final lap of the race, the hard-charging Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 LMS of Markus Winkelhock appeared to be forced off the track during a challenge for position with Level 5 Motorsports' Alessandro Pier Guidi at the wheel of a Ferrari 458 Italia. The Ferrari came out in the lead and took the checkered flag, but before it had finished waving, race officials slapped a penalty on the Ferrari, awarding the win to the Audi. A few hours later, that penalty was reversed, and Ferrari was back on top of the podium.

With so much on-track action (and an unfortunate amount of armchair intervention from the race organizer's box), it's clear that the rivalry between the GT Daytona teams is only heating up. The next stage of the American endurance racing series starts this weekend with the 12 Hours of Sebring, so we thought you'd enjoy hearing Mattiaci's perspective as it was during the race at Daytona.

Marco Mattiacci, CEO, Ferrari North America

Marco Mattiacci, CEO, Ferrari North America
Motor Authority: What are some of the strengths Ferrari brings to its North American endurance racing program?

Mattiacci: In the last six years, Ferrari has been extremely consistent in delivering amazing products, amazing races, amazing drivers, and making this country the most important. It is the largest market, one of the largest fanbases, and the largest number of collectors. The consistency in fighting every weekend under different forms in every track, the consistency to be always competitive.

Motor Authority: Sitting just outside the building is the NART Ferrari 250 GTO, an icon of North American endurance racing history. How does that relate to today's racing?

Mattiacci: The 250 GTO is really an embryonic phase of Ferrari. Today we have the Ferrari 458 Italia, probably one of the best Ferraris ever, the important thing is that what we are showing to the world is that we have a car that can do a 40-minute challenge race, then come here with the same car, but win a 24 hours. Ferrari nuts and bolts, made by Ferrari in Maranello. Very few of these people at this race battling with us today can claim the same.

The 250 GTO was very innovative for its years. Likewise, the 458 Italia is very innovative today. Can you compare the two ways of racing, the braveness of drivers like Phil Hill, to the drivers of today? I don't know, they are brave too. But it's a different environment, there's a big organization behind it all. Today is the first race with IMSA, the merger of Grand Am and ALMS, to open a new chapter of racing in the U.S.

Motor Authority: Ferrari races all over the world. How does the atmosphere in the U.S. compare to Europe or Asia?

Mattiacci: I love it here. GT racing in the United States gets customers extremely close to the drivers, to the cars--extreme accessibility. It gives the possibility for the enthusiasts to get close to the drivers and dream of them. Ferrari is an aspirational brand, there are millions of people that love us, but probably will never buy a Ferrari--but they foster the brand and are very passionate. (source-motorauthority.com)

Size Matters 2 screencap. 2014 Audi RS 5 DTM race car

Posted by Unknown Posted on 22:46 with No comments
It's always hard to imagine how the Dubai Police will top its latest exotic-car acquisition, but luckily the world's automakers keep obliging it with outrageous supercars.

The Dubai Police fleet already includes a Bugatti Veyron, Aston Martin One-77, and Lamborghini Aventador and, while those cars are very impressive, none of them are Swedish.

A Koenigsegg One:1 seems like a natural addition, which is why Santapanter Photography (via The Supercar Kids) rendered one in the Dubai Police's green-and-white livery. Not surpirisingly, it looks good.

ALSO SEE: Meet The Bugatti Veyron Of The Dubai Police Fleet: Video

Named for its power-to-weight ratio of one horsepower per kilogram, the One:1 is based on the Koenigsegg Agera, and was unveiled at the recent 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

With a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 producing 1,340 hp, and a curb weight of 1,340 kg (2,954 pounds) Koenigsegg boasts that the One:1 could outrun a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, reaching an estimated top speed of 273 mph. That would make it the perfect vehicle for catching speeders in supercar-heavy Dubai.

However, Koenigsegg says the One:1 is really all about the corners, where it can pull up to 2.0 g thanks to copious aerodynamic aids.

While it's unclear whether the Dubai Police will pony up the requisite $2 million for a One:1, there is another police version of this supercar ready to go on duty.

The One:1 will be one of many police supercars featured in the video game Need For Speed Rivals.(source-motorauthority.com)

    Bajaj Pulsar 200NS

Posted by Unknown Posted on 03:54 with No comments
Claimed to be the world’s first motorcycle to adopt the Triple Spark Engine Technology, the all-new Pulsar has been hitting the streets of Nepal since its launch in September 2012. Introduced by HH Bajaj, the sole authorized distributor of Bajaj two-wheelers in Nepal, the next-gen Pulsar has made quite an impression from the launch day – thanks to its great looks. A team from New Auto Nepal did the test ride around the streets valley to figure it out more closely.

    Engine and Performance:

While being introduced in the Indian Market, the new Pulsar 200 NS was acclaimed to add further study on ‘Performance Motorcycle’. The engine of Pulsar 200 NS is regarded as the-most reformed engine of its entire brand till date. Its four-valve head is powered by a single overhead camshaft, and its combustion chamber is home to a trio of spark plugs. It has maximum power of 23.17 Bhp @ 9500 rpm and maximum torque of 18.3 Nm @ 8000 rpm. Since it’s powered with triple spark technology, the combustion efficiency is better than twin spark plug by 27% and single spark plug by 50%. The solid six-speed gearbox shifts effortlessly, with exact feel in a one-down, five-up pattern, and the clutch sense is also good. The combination of these technologies makes the overall performance of the bike excellent.

    Style

The new Pulsar NS 200 is all muscle and bulk. Its muscular perimeter frame, specially designed foot pegs, split seat, clip on handle bar, sporty naked chain makes it look a definitely-male motorbike. The tapered headlight shines a brilliant – well focused beam at night. Tucked its silencer box neatly away below its engine makes it more appealing. Overall, the style perfectly matches its next-gen theme and makes it stand out from the crowd.

    Riding and Security

Though the bike might have a sporty posture, riding NS 200 is very comfortable – as it is more commuter friendly than it looks. But it feels huge to sit-in and the slightly wider handlebar grips – of a very nice texture – underpins your feeling of this bike being a large motorcycle. The NS provides a well padded, roomy split saddle, and is a comfortable bike to lead – thanks to an upright riding position. The seat height is also higher and coupled with the short wheelbase gives better quickness to the bike. The Pulsar easily holds its line when committed mid-corner, even as it falls short of feeling as light and effortless to turn-in as its sibling, the 200 Duke. Ride quality is simply good.

The Pulsar NS 200 leans over with an effortlessness that implies it is 20-25kg lighter than the initial impression. Brakes are very good too and the bike is backed up with enough power as you continue to squeeze the lever. The rear disc also allows a fair amount of travel so modulating pressure is easy.

Performance is matched by a significantly more capable chassis both in ride and handling departments and that means all in all, this is a great bike to ride on.

Bajaj had launched Pulsar 200 NS and KTM Duke almost at the same time in the Indian Market, and a lot of bike enthusiasts seemed confused regarding the similarity of these two. However, besides crankshaft, crankcase and gear box there are lot of unique features in both the bikes.

The Pulsar has been the basis of affordable performance. Bajaj have managed to instill the new motorcycle with a good sense of performance while retaining both in design terms and in engine note.

Honda Civic Si built from Forza Motorsport gamer's design, 2014 Chicago Auto Show

Posted by Unknown Posted on 21:02 with No comments
The crossover between video games and real life has become something we in the car world know and respect--most notably through Gran Turismo and the Nissan GT Academy. Now, it's Forza Motorsport and Honda that are helping bridge the digital divide with a custom Civic Si designed by one lucky gamer.

Honda is building the car for display at the Chicago Auto Show. Chosen from 170 entries, the winning design comes from Forza gamer Tiffany Labedz. Labedz's design was chosen by the Forza Motorsport community's 17,000 gamers.

"At Honda, we love meeting our customers where their passion lies, and the  racing and custom car design in Forza Motorsport is definitely a passion for so many Honda and Civic enthusiasts," said Tom Peyton, assistant vice president of advertising for American Honda. ItalDesign Clipper Concept Is A Minivan From The Future: 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Posted by Unknown Posted on 20:58 with No comments
Famed design house ItalDesign Giugiaro was acquired by the Volkswagen Group back in 2010. The automaker purchased 90 percent of the company. That means that Volkswagen has direct access to Giugiaro, but it also means that the Turin-based design firm has access to VW. What happens when the two intersect? We get the ItalDesign Giugiaro Clipper concept, which is essentially a minivan that's come back to 2014 from the future in order to find a parking spot at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Clipper concept rides atop the Volkswagen Group's flexible MQB platform, which means it should feature a transversely-mounted engine up front and the driven wheels will be up there as well. MQB vehicles range from the 2015 Audi A3 and 2015 Volkswagen Golf to the Skoda Octavia and a slew of upcoming other vehicles such as the 2016 Audi TT, which also happened to be on display in Geneva.

Here on the Clipper concept, the MQB platform is put to good use by forming the basis of a stylish people mover. Inside the cabin space there are three rows of seats, which means room for six people. The doors open upward for easy entry and exit, and the interior is filled with all sorts display screens to provide information to the driver and entertainment to the passengers.

We said it should feature a transversely mounted engine up front... but since this is a concept things are done a bit differently. The Clipper concept is 100% electric and power is provided by a pair of 147-horsepower motors. Each unit sends energy to an axle, which makes the Clipper concept all-wheel-drive as well. It proves that good designers think about everything, and the constraints of a given platform don't necessarily need to apply. A front-engine, front-wheel-drive MQB machine has been completely transformed here.

DON'T MISS: 1,340-Horsepower Koenigsegg One:1 Supercar Live From Geneva

Yes it's a concept, but we hope it's one that the Volkswagen group explores a bit further. There's no reason that people movers can be fun and stylish.(source-motorauthority.com)

Nepali girls better riders than boys, Mistakes that can reject your application

Posted by Unknown Posted on 01:59 with No comments
Nepali girls have proved to be better rider than their stronger sex-boys. Most of the females who participated in the driving license test ride on Tuesday passed the test. And most of boys failed.

The results were indicative of the proposition that females apply for driving license only after going through a rigorous trial sessions at home or at driving schools.

Nepal traffic police’s new driving license examination was implement from today and the results were cracking. Of the total 60 applicants only 24 passed in the trial exam. And of these 24, 14 were girls.

Acting chief of Bagmati Transportation Management Office, Ram Mani Pokhrel said that higher percentage of failure was due to new trial methods introduced. Pokhrel said that the methods are tougher than previously used.
The new 8-shaped path introduced by Nepal Traffic Police is one of the new five additional tests that any aspirant should get through to acquire a driving license. (Photo Credit: http://goo.gl/hZ9zD)

In the erstwhile driving license examination, it was sufficient for the applicant to cross the zig zag five poles. But the recent changes includes many other categories which include Pre Security measures for driving motorcycle and scooters test, reading pictorial signals, test on narrow wood, traffic signals, driving in topsy turvy roads, speed test, gear changing and timing test.
So what are the point that can force you for another driving license test in Nepal:

    1. If you start driving motorcycles without checking tail and side lights, fixing mirrors, and without wearing helmet.
    2. If you cross the 8-shaped trac assigned for driving.
    3. If your bike gets down from the wooden plank
    4. If you fail to flash the tail light while turning,
    5. If you don’t obey traffic signals,
    6. If you legs get to ground while driving on the topsy turvy track,
    7. If your vehicle skids back more than 6 inch while driving on the ramp inclination.
    8. If your bike start stops more than two times.
    9. If you take more than five minutes to complete all the trial tests.

Honda launches Trigger in India, sees Bajaj as a formidable rival

New Delhi: Japanese auto major Honda Motor Co on Monday said it could become the number one two-wheeler maker in India by 2015-16 if the current market slowdown prolonged.

The company, which on Monday unveiled its new 150 cc bike CB Trigger, termed Bajaj Auto as a more formidable rival than erstwhile partner Hero MotoCorp, the present market leader.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI)—the Indian two-wheeler arm of Honda– is at second position in terms of sales of two-wheelers in the country, after Hero MotoCorp. Bajaj Auto occupies the third position.

According to industry body, SIAM’s data, HMSI has sold 23.67 lakh units during April, 2012 and February, 2013, Bajaj Auto’s sales stood at 22.82 lakh units. Hero’s total sales was 54.61 lakh units during the same period.

“Today the market is almost 1.4 crore (units) in India. So, if (it) remains (at the) same level, no growth happening, we may become number one in 2015 or 16,” Honda Motor Co’s Operating Officer Shinji Aoyama told reporters here.

He added Honda sees Bajaj is as a bigger rival and not its erstwhile partner Hero.

“In terms of numbers, still Hero is number one but very frankly speaking, the consolidated power, including R&D, sales network there, including many of these elements, I think Bajaj is very strong. Bajaj is very good at creating alliance…” he said. When asked about its rivalry with the Hero group, he said that the market leader will continue to lose its share, while his firm will continue to grow its shares.

“You will witness actually HMSI is gaining market share while Hero is losing the market share. The trend will continue,” Aoyama said.

Besides, the HMSI will be launching 3-4 more models of two-wheelers in the current financial year, to expand its market share and has started the process of exploring new locations to set up a new plant.

When asked whether Honda is looking for any new partnerships in India after Hero MotoCorp, Aoyama said that his firm is not looking to forge any partnership in the country. However, the Japanese automaker will continue to provide technology to Hero group till 2014 as per the termination agreement of its alliance.

Noting that the company will have production capacity of 4 million units by March 2014, he said that upcoming 1.2 million units plant in Karnataka is expected to begin production “in next 3 months”.

The company is also expanding its reach by opening one touch point, which includes new dealers and service centres, every day in India.
Aoyama also said that HMSI’s total turnover is expected to be at Rs 12,000 crore in the current fiscal and the Indian unit accounts for 14-15 percent of Honda’s global revenues in the two-wheeler segment.

In terms of sales, India is the fastest growing market for Honda and accounts for around 18 percent of its total global sales in two-wheeler segment. The company is aiming to increase it to 25 percent by 2016.

Meanwhile, the company on Monday unveiled a new 150cc CB Trigger bike to take on the rivals like Bajaj Auto’s Pulsar. Dispatches of the new bike, which comes with Honda’s combi brake system and promises a 60 kilo metres per hour mileage, will begin by April-end.

The company, however, did not disclose its price and said that it will be “competitive” with HMSI’s rivals.

The 50 greatest cars of the past 20 years

Posted by Unknown Posted on 19:55 with No comments
If a year is a long time in politics, two decades must be a few lifetimes in the world of cars. The automotive landscape has changed beyond recognition since the first issue of Top Gear magazine thudded onto shelves back in September 1993. Who'd have predicted Ferrari making a 4WD estate - or a hybrid hypercar? Or that 2013's Merc S Class could, effectively, drive itself? Or that Jeremy would still be banging on about how much he hates the 911?

But through it all, Top Gear has been your faithful companion, diligently charting the evolution of cars through insightful writing, stunning photos and a lot of cocking about. OK, mostly the cocking about.

So how to celebrate our 20th anniversary? As no one knew how to bake a cake, we thought we'd keep it simple and crown the greatest car of the last 20 years instead. Unfortunately this simple idea caused a great deal of fighting in the Top Gear office. Tempers run high on these matters. At least two black eyes ensued. At one point, a chair was set on fire.

Thankfully you lot were on hand to help. Over 100,000 of you voted in our online poll, helping us to count down the 50 greatest cars of the past 20 years and crown the winner. And whoever attempted to cast four million votes for the Morris Marina, you've been reported to the authorities.----Read More at-http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/20yearsofcars-mag-promo
